Tell us, how does your day begin?
I would say that my day never ends. Indeed, in the morning, I usually take care of projects for new pairs, and in the afternoon, I look for materials. And at night, I often dream about shoes when I go to sleep. I would say that my job is a continuous work in progress.
Mattia CapezzaniWhat are your first memories of shoes?
One of the memories from my childhood that is related somehow to shoes is when I was little, and I used to play hide-and-seek, and my favorite place where to hide was the shelf with all different types of leather.

Mattia CapezzaniDid you have a favorite pair as a child?
The picture in my mind of my favorite pair of shoes goes back to when I was little, and since I grew up in the countryside with my grandparents, I often spent time with them in the fields. What always fascinated me was my grandad’s boots, usually dirty with soil. (Probably because it reminded me of hard work and family traditions.

Mattia CapezzaniTell us about your design philosophy. Where do you get your design
inspiration from?
My collections are the expression of the exact formula that combines childhood memories and personal growth. Before any inspiration, there is the research within myself: my creations are something intimate and timeless, and they represent the culture and history of my territory, Marche.
What does it mean "Made in Italy" for you today?
Today more than ever, I believe that the Made in Italy is a fundamental signature. The Made in Italy symbolizes quality and excellence. In my opinion, it is going to be something that people would look for more in the next few years. We have already seen for too long how there is a high consumption in the clothing market of things that we wear three times, and then we throw them away because of their bad quality. And this is clearly at the expense of our planet.

Mattia CapezzaniWhat kind of shoes do you wear when you want to feel free?
When I know that I have to walk for a long time and I want to feel comfortable and ‘light’, I like wearing the new sneakers that I recently realized in my last sample collection.
How do you balance fashion and functionality?
I challenge myself to find a balance between fashion and functionality. To do so, I do a lot of research on materials. In particular, I try to give lightness to shoes that bring comfort and, at the same time using high-quality materials.

Today “Mattia Capezzani” is a dream coming true. I always wanted to shape in a concrete way the expression of my personality. Something that can last in time, and this is why I am always looking for new original shapes and for the finest materials.
